I t has to be said, Pinterest is definitely one of my new favourite websites! I thought I’d share some of my favourite pins from this month, click the image to link to the pin

Feels more like summer! Not only do I love the skill of the watercolour on this, but it visually reflects how my past 4 days have been in the sunshine Good times!

And what would sunny weather be without a good bike ride? The lighting in this shot reminds me of summer evenings with the wind ruffling your tee and blowing through your hair as you race into the sun

Colour is coming! Already there has been white and pink blossoms in the garden, and yesterday the first of the tulips opened up.

And finally, with Easter coming I thought I’d share something chocolate-y. I thought this was pretty awesome!

S o I recently got an account on Pinterest and on my first time exploring it I spent most of my day on there. Here are a couple of my favourites this month, if you click on the image it will take you to the pin.

I really love the typography on this, and the hand drawn type adds a lovely personal touch. Texture is subtle, but not ignored.

What is there to say about this? THE COLOURS!!! The letterpress texture with overlapping characters and colours creates layers on layers of loveliness. The continuation of colour on the typography in the center goes really well. Very nice.

Although this workspace is unnaturally tidy (for my liking), I really like the layout of it and have worked in a similar set up before. Things to make this perfect would be; prints on the wall, books! where are the books? oh and some vinyl toys

Lastly, these yummy looking crudités look really great in square based jars and vases. I’d like a big pot of tzatziki with this!! Nom nom nom.

I  was looking through my old photos earlier making sure I hadn’t left out any important bits for my portfolio, when I remembered these little gems from an old project. A lot of these were found around Uphill Boat Yard, but some are from other locations too. I had a lot of fun with this project and would happily do something similar again! So I may well go on another type-hunt for any upcoming projects in the future.

I particularly like this one due to the bright orange striking a massive contrast. The four different typefaces seem to work together due to their decay and grungy-ness.

I think I found this tin in Dad’s garage, which he uses to keep odd nails & screws in. The rust had affected most of the tin itself, but the design on the lid still seemed legible enough. I’m not sure why but this particular hue of green reminds me of olive oil bottles & their packaging.

This was another box of nails, the old thick card was very worn and possibly got wet at some point, but I love how flecks of the ink have come away like old letraset.

Lastly, my favourite shot from the boat yard. A big grey container with subtle grunge to it but with crisp sans serif type. I used this on the cover of the project this was for and manipulated the image in Photoshop by clone stamping out the type and replacing it with my project title & details.

After a long wait, I have finally updated my lovely website (as you can see!). The first biggest change was to switch to the wonderful Striking theme for WordPress by KaptinLin. I’ve found the theme absolutely stunning so far! It’s very user friendly and has so much flexibility with layouts and typography – which is often sadly overlooked in some themes.

The second thing you may have spotted is an update to my logo, setting a lovely blue splash of colour to my previously dark and gloomy site. The new logo subtly incorporates pencils in the negative space on the J and the I by changing the tittle (the dot of the i) to a triangular shape. Originally I was after a highly decorative and pictorial logo, but I feel that this little tweak to the typography is just right to get my crossover of graphic design & illustration across.
